I am on RDP 8.5.1 and mostly love it. I feel that 8.5.1 has better performance the 8.0.3. I am editing programs of the type RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, RPG (audible groan) , CLLE, CL, PF, LF, DSPF, PRTF, and CBLLE (another audible groan), CBL (extreme audible groan).

Live outline is pretty darn good in RPGLE and SQLRPGLE, but has some glitches.

Annoyances:
When searching for indicator and field usage I do not solely rely on the outline, I will also do manual searches within the source member.
There are issues with the outline sorting my parameter lists and key lists when I would rather it did not.
There are issues when in debug and hovering over variables will not show the values.
But these are annoyances that I can live with.

As an aside, I have a project upcoming where I will be using SEU primarily and I shudder just a little thinking about it.

I also cannot imagine going back to SEU. And let me echo that you and
your team's efforts are immensely appreciated, Edmund.

I am using 8.5.0 and eagerly awaiting the next fixpak so I can turn live outline back on.

Thanks again, IBM team, for all you do.

My $.02 is that the memory leak and content assist issues mentioned are
all
due to the new live model that is supporting live outline view and live
content assist and hovers.
If you have 8.5.1 installed you can turn off the live outline view using
the Preference on Remote Systems->IBM i Parsers->ILE RPG "Update the
Outline view when text is changed in the editor". There is a shortcut to
the preference right in the outline view toolbar.
Once the live model is disabled, your outline view and RPG editing
experience will be pretty well identical to what you got in 8.0.3.

If you disable the live model I recommend trying it out again in the next
version of RDp as it will continue to improve in robustness and features.

I don't personally push RDP to a point where it breaks so I don't think
any of these issues would matter to me much, but my customers would push
it quite a bit harder.

Based on my experience Jim there is nothing in 8.5 (magic Outline view
included) that makes up for the grief I have suffered as a result of the
upgrade. In the future I intend to be much more cautious in moving to a
new
version - this one has cost me days and days of wasted time. Most of it
when I most needed it - but nothing new there of course.

If I had the chance to do it over - I wouldn't <grin>
