My $.02 is that the memory leak and content assist issues mentioned are all
due to the new live model that is supporting live outline view and live
content assist and hovers.
If you have 8.5.1 installed you can turn off the live outline view using
the Preference on Remote Systems->IBM i Parsers->ILE RPG "Update the
Outline view when text is changed in the editor". There is a shortcut to
the preference right in the outline view toolbar.
Once the live model is disabled, your outline view and RPG editing
experience will be pretty well identical to what you got in 8.0.3.

If you disable the live model I recommend trying it out again in the next
version of RDp as it will continue to improve in robustness and features.

I don't personally push RDP to a point where it breaks so I don't think
any of these issues would matter to me much, but my customers would push
it quite a bit harder.

Based on my experience Jim there is nothing in 8.5 (magic Outline view
included) that makes up for the grief I have suffered as a result of the
upgrade. In the future I intend to be much more cautious in moving to a new
version - this one has cost me days and days of wasted time. Most of it
when I most needed it - but nothing new there of course.

If I had the chance to do it over - I wouldn't <grin>
