Never mind...

Restarted RDP 8.5, and this problem went away...

Who knew?

Shucks!

Brand new install of RDP 8.5 on windows-7. When I click on the Compile-Menu, I get "dummy" instead of CRTBNDRPG...

It takes about 10-30 seconds to finally get the compile commands. And then when I click on the "Work with Compile commands...". Nothing happens...

Checking the Error-Log, I get unhandled event loop exception.

Any ideas?

PS. I installed RDP 8.5 into a separate folder called ...\SDP_8_5. Just as I installed RDP 8.0.3 into ..\SDP_803.

I guess I go back to RDP 8.0.3 again... <sigh>

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Windows XP RDP 8.5 problems with Designer. Seems resolved on Windows-7 64-bit installation. trying RDP 8.5 AGAIN! :)

Hi,

Recap of one problem with the DDS Designer on RDP 8.5 with Windows XP.

When clicking on a field in the designer screen, the field properties will refresh in the "properties View". With RDP 8.0.3, but NOT on RDP 8.5. The auto refresh of the properties window would NOT happen. I had to click on another View, to force a "REFRESH" of the properties View. <frown>
Note: Did a "FRESH" clean install on the windows XP box.

I am trying RDP 8.5 again. I have reinstalling it on my new PC with Windows 7 in 64-bit mode. And I do NOT have an issue with the Properties view refreshing. It seems to work great on Windows-7 64-bit mode, no refresh issue on the properties window in the Designer. <Joy Joy>

I will try RDP 8.5 again!

Normally, I usually do NOT design screens too much, since I normally deal with Business Logic Rules versus Screens.

But, if I happen to run into any NEW problems with the screen designer or RDP 8.5, I will recap any re-creatable problems on this forum.

Since my company did NOT purchase an extended support agreement on RDP, I cannot open a PMR for bugs. Obviously, we have license, we just didn't purchase extended support for RDP.

Unfortunately, most of my co-workers still prefer old reliable SEU. Approximately 70% of the developers still use SEU. Because RDP learning curve is "Too Big". <Big Frown>

Oh well, you can lead a horse to water, but cannot make them drink. I have been on the IBM i platform since 1990, and have been using WDSC/RDi/RDP since about late 2005. I LOVE IT. This old dog can learn new tricks!

PS. I have Uncheck the "Use Cached information to restore the Remote Systems View" in Windows>Preferences>Remote systems to get "FRESH Source", which should resolve the "STALE Source" issue that forced me to downgrade to RDP 8.0.3.

Only need to figure out how to turnoff Live Outline view, as everyone has recommended. Is that located at Windows>Preferences>Remote Systems>IBM i>Program Verifiers. I don't know how to turn that off. If that is recommend.

Thanks!

FYI, the "stale cache" issue was not introduced in RDp 8.5. It is just that the live outline view exercised the cache more heavily in a threaded
(concurrent) manner which brought the issue to light. So you would not be
worse off at 8.5 with live outline turned off.
By the way, since we don't have a PMR for the Screen Designer issue, we are not sure whether or not we have addressed it in the upcoming service release.

Just sharing....

Basically, IBM told me to upgrade RDP 8 to RDP 8.5, when it is patched. And turn off Live outline, just like others have already said on this form.

They said this is NOT an issue on RDP 8.5.

But, they are working on the issue of the "stale source" problem. Which is why I downgraded to version 8.0.3.

Sorry, but I need to count of reading the TRUE SOURCE that is stored on the IBM. RDP 8.0.3 always does that for me! Unlike RDP 8.5. and it's "Stale source" issue.

I think you can submit a PMR by calling the 1-800 number and using the serial number of your machine. I did that the first time I reported an RDp problem. It took them awhile to find the correct customer number associated with the product but they did find it and gave to me.

Thanks!

I will have to ask my system administrator to submit this bug report or maybe he will trust me with our customer number. Since that seems required.

I happen to be creating dozens of "interface" programs, and having to type the correct HARDCODE program name. But, if that is how it works, I have no choice...

At least the scan in RDP works quite well.

I have been using WDSC/RDi/RDP for over 7-years. Overall, it is a great product! Thank you IBM!!!
