Hi Scott,
I have also experienced this issue when working over a VPN.
In addition, I have also received a Remote System Disconnected (or
something like that) message at random intervals, even though I am still
connected using a green screen session.
When I disconnect/reconnect, all is well, but as far as I know, there is no
solution for it.

Hi Scott

I've found that using things like RDP or PC5250 directly over the VPN is
prone to breakage. I use Remote Desktop over VPN to connect with a
machine at the office when I'm away, then do all the work on the
office-local machine. If the VPN goes down, my time has not been wasted.

If Alex has a spare PC there and someone willing to start it for you,
maybe this would work for you.

Otherwise, backup-backup-backup-auto-backup-auto-save - do all those
every 5 seconds! Well, not that often, perhaps!

Hello all,

I've recently started a new job at Profound Logic software, and am
working from home. It's going well, but I'm having a lot of problems
with Rational Developer for Power Systems (RPG/Cobol).

I'm running what I believe to be the latest version: 8.5.
My PC is running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit

The problem is if I leave RDP idle for awhile, and then come back to it,
when I try to update a member, or get a member list, or anything else
that requires accessing the server, I get this error from RSE:

RSEF1002: Operation failed: File system input or output error.

If I click the "details" button, it says "Message reported from file
system: Read timed out".

If I disconnect from the server, then reconnect all is well again...
until I leave it idle again. The amount of idleness required to
trigger the problem seems to vary. Sometimes 30 minutes seems to be
enough to make it go haywire, but not always. Once I left it
overnight, and I didn't have a problem.

I'm running this over a VPN, but I don't think the VPN is the problem,
since I can leave other connections open, such as TN5250, E-mail, and
misc other things, and none of them have timeout problems over this same
VPN connection. Only RSE/RDP has a problem.

Has anyone encountered this before? Are there settings I can tweak?
Or, something else I can do to troubleshoot it further?

Thanks!
