Scott,

I've been having this identical problem running WDSCi 7.0.0.8 over VPN ever
since the IBM i was upgraded to 6.1. The frequency has increased since we went
to 7.1. When I'm connected over the local network, it doesn't happen. I don't
have a solution, or even a real idea of what to look at.

BTW, we're using Cisco VPN. I don't know if that makes any difference.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Message reported from file system: Read timed out

Hello all,

I've recently started a new job at Profound Logic software, and am
working from home. It's going well, but I'm having a lot of problems
with Rational Developer for Power Systems (RPG/Cobol).

I'm running what I believe to be the latest version: 8.5.
My PC is running Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit

The problem is if I leave RDP idle for awhile, and then come back to it,
when I try to update a member, or get a member list, or anything else
that requires accessing the server, I get this error from RSE:

RSEF1002: Operation failed: File system input or output error.

If I click the "details" button, it says "Message reported from file
system: Read timed out".

If I disconnect from the server, then reconnect all is well again...
until I leave it idle again. The amount of idleness required to
trigger the problem seems to vary. Sometimes 30 minutes seems to be
enough to make it go haywire, but not always. Once I left it
overnight, and I didn't have a problem.

I'm running this over a VPN, but I don't think the VPN is the problem,
since I can leave other connections open, such as TN5250, E-mail, and
misc other things, and none of them have timeout problems over this same
VPN connection. Only RSE/RDP has a problem.

Has anyone encountered this before? Are there settings I can tweak?
Or, something else I can do to troubleshoot it further?
