In RDP, you also may want to look at:
Window / Preferences / Remote Systems / Remote Systems LPEX Editor / Column sensitive editing

No that is not in RDP, they have this Block feature under LPEX Editor and you can choose character, element, rectangle, and stream. It defaults to steam (which is the one I am talking about) but they all have there own issues (have tried them all), none work like it did in WDSC.

Isn't editing by columns an optional preference? I believe you can change how the source is edited.
In WDSC 7 you have under 'Remote Systems LPEX Editor' there is a 'Column Sensitive editing'.
Is the same available in RDP?

For other IBM i COBOL developers, doesn't the difference in coping and pasting one line between WDSC and RDP screw you up? In RDP it stops pasting at COLUMN 7 when start pasting from COLUMN 1, WDSC never did that.
And also sometimes when pasting something in RDP and it gets to COLUMN 73 it will just stop pasting and you lose the rest of what your where trying to past. In WDSC it would keep it and you could copy what was past COLUMN
73 down to the next line. I really don't like the COLUMN thing that was put in RDP for COBOL, have even thought about loading WDSC back on my system because it gets so frustrating at times.

Hi,

Just so I'm clear on this, there is nothing new in this release for us lowly IBM i COBOL developers?

If this is the case then there is no reason to upgrade then? Saves me time and effort!

I will be reviewing the RFEs.

Hi Jon

We totally agree that COBOL outline desperately needs updating.

The AIX COBOL support gets to improve thanks to investment from our sister product RDz. So IBM is acting as one and code reuse does benefit. We in Toronto as putting relatively little effort in, for the bang we are getting.

But nobody else in IBM is going to do a live RPG model. So that is what our product area focused on. Now that it is in place, it will enable a lot of rich tooling so that we can get to the same level of productivity as the Java editing experience.

BTW, I have passed on your request about the Mac.
We appreciate all you are doing out there, Jon.

That's OK Edmund - COBOL Outline support is next to useless anyway ;-) There are many, many things it needs before you worry about live update!

Not being mean, but were there really that many RFEs for the COBOL AIX support that it got all the effort? There's precious little in 8.5 for IBM i period. Personally I was really disappointed that after all this community support there was so little content.
