We totally agree that COBOL outline desperately needs updating.

The AIX COBOL support gets to improve thanks to investment from our sister
product RDz. So IBM is acting as one and code reuse does benefit. We in

getting.

But nobody else in IBM is going to do a live RPG model. So that is what
our product area focused on. Now that it is in place, it will enable a lot
of rich tooling so that we can get to the same level of productivity as the
Java editing experience.

BTW, I have passed on your request about the Mac.
We appreciate all you are doing out there, Jon.

Thanks for the explanation Edmund ( and to Dave too ).

I confess that I'm amazed that the COBOL on AIX has anything in common with the z product. When we were investigating doing ILE COBOL we studied the mainframe code and it was determined that it was not portable to the IBM i due to radical differences in the PL dialects. That's why it was re-written in C. I guess the AIX "flavor" must have been a lot closer to PL/z.

I confess that since I mostly write in tiny pieces the auto-refresh on the Outline is a nice-to-have for me since pushing the button is no biggie. I do however look forward to the expansions in the tooling that this apparently facilitates.

P.S. Do you have any outstanding problem reports on Ctrl/Space prompting not working properly? I have encountered a number of situations recently where it doesn't work and/or brings up a list of BIFs when it should bring up variables. If you haven't let me know and after I've upgraded I will run through test scenarios an let you know if the problems still occur.
