I would tend to agree that, while it works for RPG, the Column sensitive
editing preference doesn't do what you think it would for COBOL (right
now, namely nothing). I've created an internal work item to have this
looked at.

Okay switch to element instead of stream and seems to allow me to copy and
paste the whole line. Still seems weird doesn't work as smoothly as it
did
in WDSC, still don't understand why this had to change? Never could get
the "query fields" and "set fields" thing to do what you said maybe I
wasn't typing in the right spot who knows, shouldn't be this difficult to
copy and paste :(.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately for COBOL on IBM i, I seem to recall that the LPEX fields
are hard-coded in the parser, and not affected by the "Column sensitive
editing" preference. If you go to the command line at the bottom of the
LPEX window, and type "query fields", you should see something like "1 7
73 81". So LPEX divides up each line into areas starting at columns 1, 7,
73, and 81, and on a paste will fill out only the current area, but
nothing beyond that.

To workaround this, you can change your block selection type to element.
This will let you copy a whole line at a time. Alternately, you can leave
it in stream, and type the LPEX command "set fields" to clear out the
fields, so that LPEX won't enforce this rule.

In WDSC 7.0 (I'm guessing there must be something similar in RDP) in the
Preferences under Remote Systems and Remote Systems LPEX Editor, checking
'Column sensitive editing' will produce symptoms like what you're
getting.

I have Column sensitive editing off and still doesn't work. I copy a
whole
line and past on next line and only first 6 columns get pasted. Only time
it works correctly is if I do the copy and paste the old PDM way "C" in
number area and "B" in number area on line after.

Also loaded a fresh install on a different PC and didn't use my old
workspace from WDSC and still get the same problems...... These are
window
7 PC, RDP 8.0.3, one is 32bit other is 64bit. This is on .cbl members.

Thanks,

Jeff Buening

Our setting is set to stream also, so must not be that. What I am
finding
even more crazy is that when, I first open a member I can copy and paste
correctly once, then every time after that it doesn't work anymore.
Maybe
I will load on some other computer and see if it is just my PC.
