I too grew frustrated with snippets and templates, so I wrote my own
expand
template routine. It handles insertion of free format or fixed format,
variable replacement (no mouse needed), and can be used with any source
type
(RPG, DDS, CL, etc.). Each template is stored in it's own text file in a
directory structure that you specify the location of.

I don't have it tied into content assist though, I setup my own hot key
for
it. Works similar, type in a few letters and hit the hot key, it displays
a
list of all the template names that start with those letters and lets you
pick one. If there is only one match, it skips the selection. In
addition
to normal type templates like read loops, I also use this for my source
skeletons for new members. Different skeletons for the different types of
RPGs, CLs, etc. that we use. I also have several different templates
inserting new procedures into RPG source.

But, unfortunately, I'm stuck on WDSCi. I don't know what kind of changes
need to made to classes for them to work in RDPi. If I recall correctly
from what I read, I think they are minor.

We are not satisfied with the snippets and templates features of RDPi
for
our RPG programmers and are looking for another solution.

Requirements:
Injecting a block of code should be capable from content assist
(ctrl-space) regardless of whether the cursor is in a free format block
or
not.
If replaceable variables are found in the code block, it should present
an
interface for filling those values in.
Filling in replaceable variable values should be able to be done all
from
the keyboard without mouse interaction.
Code blocks must be pulled in from a central repository; the plugin must
not source them from the local PC

Is there a plugin out there that can do this already in RDPi or is it
possible to be developed as a plugin?

Can anyone point us in a good direction?
