Like I said, I hadn't investigated it thoroughly, I just knew it wasn't
"working" as I had liked. I guess the work around is to create a command
to prompt the DLTF command and then prompt the CRTPF command to recreate
the file (if you don't mind data loss). If you need your data, then
you'll have to do it from the green screen I guess.

Re: [WDSCI-L] WDSC CHGPF / CRTPF on existing file not replacing object

Paul, Bryce, Mark, et al,

It's not a matter of WDSC. If you submit the CHGPF to batch on the green
screen, the message is not displayed nor handled. We opened a PMR about
it years ago, but it never really got anywhere. If I recall correctly the

response was basically "Working as designed." I've always thought
"working as designed" is a pretty lame answer, but I understand the
challenge--how do you ask whether to continue the CHGPF from a batch
environment? or more generically, a non-interactive environment such as
WDSC. Sending a message to QSYSOPR would wreak havoc on automated build
tools. Anyway, the problem arises because you're either changing a field
to an incompatible type, deleting a field, etc. As pointed out, the
initial CRTPF in QTEMP succeeds, but the command fails.

Subject:

[WDSCI-L] WDSC CHGPF / CRTPF on existing file not replacing object

I am trying to compile a PF from WDSC (WDSC 7.0.0) to my library. The
file
already exists. So I have attempted to use the CHGPF option. The job
runs
on the iSeries but executes a CRTPF to QTEMP and goes no further.

When I prompt the CHGPF is see this as the command this is about to be
executed:

CHGPF FILE(PJTLIB/APREF) SRCFILE(PJTLIB/QDDSSRC) SRCMBR(APREF)
OPTION(*EVENTF)

But when the job runs I get a CRTPF spool file output with this
confirmation
message:

* CPC7301 00 Message . . . . : File
APREF created in library QTEMP.

I have looked for configuration options on the CHGPF and CRTPF commands
but
have been unsuccessful finding them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Paul
