Nice tip Vern, on the ability to create shortcuts in Navigator.

Thanks

I looked at Data Studio maybe a year ago and found it very much wanting
in regard to iSeries functionality. Other flavors of DB2 are supported
much better in that product.

You might not know that you can create a desktop shortcut to many of the
Navigator functions - right-click the item and see if "Create shortcut"
is there - then it opens only that feature - that might be a lot faster
for you.

Navigator is the only tool that really covers all the SQL functionality
of the iSeries. I do have to say that the statement builder can be a
little weak, in my experience - others, please correct me if I'm wrong here!

I guess that is a possibility, but I don't like Navigator, because it is

Have you considered iSeries Navigator?

Expand Databases.
Go to your database (generally machine name)
Expand Schemas
RIGHT CLICK on the library where you want to create the table.
In the resultant pop-up menu, click on New, and then click on Table.

I have been using SQL (CREATE TABLE, INDEX, etc.) for a couple of years
now to create files, instead of DDS. I have been creating the SQL
commands in a source member and using RUNSQLSTM to execute it. I recently
began investigating IBM Data Studio to maintain these tables and indexes.
So far, I like it with one exception. I can’ t put labels on my columns
in my tables. Everytime I try to put a label on a column, I get a window
telling me that I need to buy an IBM product called IBM Optim to do this.

Is anyone else using IBM Data Studio? And if you are, are you able to put
labels on columns within Data Studio without buying this other product
just to do that?

Thanks,
Robert
