Slow to load from a dead start, granted. Which is why I start it once and leave it running. I've never noticed the Create Table function in the Database tab to be slow.

That said, at my previous employer some complained about how slow the System i was at things like ODBC connections. Once they upgraded their PC, the complaints stopped.

Have you considered iSeries Navigator?

Expand Databases.
Go to your database (generally machine name)
Expand Schemas
RIGHT CLICK on the library where you want to create the table.
In the resultant pop-up menu, click on New, and then click on Table.
