Pete,
I understand that it might appear that IBM might benefit from this broken
process, but I think we stand to lose a lot more.
Not only do we tick off our customers big time, and get a bad reputation,
but we lose automatic continuance of our revenue stream. If people are
not notified, they may never reinstate, and IBM gets nothing.

In any case, I can assure you that IBM is trying hard to fix this. The
problem is that we are using the STG hardware channel to serve SWG software
because that is only channel that is connected to most of our customers.
And this STG hardware channel is not set up to notify of SWG service
renewals this way. We are trying to get some kind of bridge working
between the two systems, but they are rather archaic. Believe me, this is
not intentional.

I will use this email to help push this process along, by copying all the
powers that be.

Edmund,

If the lack of notification of an expiring SWMA leading to the customer
having to pay MORE for a reinstatement of SWMA (which is what I think I
also had to pay as a BP) is an IBM/Rational problem, why does IBM not
just reinstate for the normal renewal cost? It seems like this is a
problem that IBM *wouldn't* want to fix, or have little incentive to do,
because they get more SWMA revenue this way (e.g. letting the SWMA
expire and then charge more for the reinstatement). I am pretty sure if
IBM was losing money on a broken internal procedure they would fix it in
a heartbeat.

Hi Jeff,

It turns out that your RDi SWMA had expired and so you were charged to
reinstate your SWMA and then the upgrade was free.
One of the problems with purchasing software through the hardware
configurator channel is that it does not notify you when your Rational
SWMA
expires. We are looking for technical solutions to this.
In the mean time, make a note that your current RDp SWMA expires on
4/29/2012, so you will want to renew before then, in order to save money.

So does that mean I shouldn't be having to pay the BP for it? Or because
I
recently agreed to pay the BP for it?

My trust and confidence level aren't very high right now.

You're telling me that a display of installed licensed programs on
that
machine, 10366DE, should show 5733-RDG and/or 5770-RDI? Neither show
up.

What I have are:

5770WDS IBM Rational Development Studio for i
5770WDS Application Development ToolSet
5770WDS ILE RPG
5770WDS RPG/400
5770WDS ILE COBOL
5770WDS Workstation Tools - Base

So therefore it's on my install media? Am I entitled to the above and
the 5733-RDG and 5770-RDI?

FWIW, when I got all my license keys from the BP, there are none in
regards to this product.

Please check and let me know. If we don't have Rational SWMA,
give

Thanks for helping with this.

Depending on what the answer is, it's beginning to sound as if
the
issue is ignorance on the part of the BP.

You now want to upgrade to RD Power from RDi. You

is the IBM i SWMA, and not the RDi SWMA which is
different. The BP could
be correct when he told you that you do not have an

If you have an active SWMA with RDi, your upgrade to
RD

Jenny Wong is the world-wide expert on this and she

Edmund,

Correct except for one thing. The BP said I was not
entitled to RDp 8.0.
I
will be billed by the BP for it. Because I was on
full
SWMA, I was hoping
that would not be the case. But that's been
discussed
here before that
SWMA
does not apply to Rational, if I recall correctly.

I also have a slight concern that the packing list
(s)
refer to Japanese.
