Thanks to Jeff's situation, I have been getting a deep dive lesson into the
intricacies.

IBM software has traditionally used Passport Advantage (PA) for all
software sales
IBM i hardware uses the configurator for hardware and media purchases and
ESS for downloads.

Our tools are in the strange position that they are software, but the
business partners that the vast majority of customers have a relationship
with are hardware business partners. So we sell the software in both
channels.
For the ESS/AAS channel the key comes with the media.
For the PA channel, you have to go to the Rational Licensing site to get
it.
RBD is only sold through the PA channel so that is why you went to the
Rational Licensing site.

I hope you are now less, rather than more confused.

Regards

Okay, now I'm more rather than less confused myself.

What is the relationship between ESS and Rational licensing? We
downloaded an ISO image to get our RDP key, but that was a while back.
It had a nice long name:

RD_Power_V8.0_RPG_and_COBOL_for_IBM_i_Lic_Act_CD_112010.iso

We then purchased RDi-SOA seats. To get our RBD key (based on our
RDi-SOA entitlement), we had to go to the Rational licensing site.

Chris,
IBM has been actively looking into what went wrong in Jeff's case and how
to make sure it doesn't happen again. We had a big meeting yesterday and
we are taking action.

Jeff, please correct me if I am wrong, but this is what I have been able
to
piece together.
Jeff had RDi 7.5 and he is entitled to RDp 8.0.
He downloaded the RDp 8.0 trial and just need the activation key.
The business partner was a hardware specialist and had originally ordered
the RDi (and probably the WDSc) through AAS which is the hardware
configurator.
Normally the business partner would order the media which has the key on
it, or download an image from ESS which also has the key on it. But
since
Jeff already had the software installed, he was not interested,
especially
because of the media cost.
What the business partner did not know was that it is possible to
download
just the activation key from ESS.

Chris, if you tell us your contact from your BP, I will have a
knowledgable
IBMer walk them through the process.
Please confirm what your situation is. Are you upgrading from RDi 7.5 or
RDp 7.6? Do you have the trial installed or are you interested in the
download with the key.

Regards
