John, once you change the font that is what is used for any subsequent spooled files.

the Spooled File support added in RDp 8.0 was done un-officially, in my
free time, but I was allowed to ship it in the release.

It was not officially designed, reviewed, or tested by anyone else at IBM;
is not documented; and is not officially supported by IBM.

There was no change to it in the 8.0.0.1 update

Its a preliminary attempt and remains a work in progress ...

I welcome comments on things to improve or change on it; but promise
nothing.

The complaints you observe are the way it currently is.
(I didn't look at setting the initial font; but once you change it the new
font should be used.)
