Thanks Mike. I'll do that while I am sorting out my current SWMA woes....

But, just to chime in on the "IBM is so confusing" thread.....I also subscribe to MyEclipse and when there is a new version I am notified by email and after I download and install, my license key is automatically transferred. All of this is painless, easy and convenient. No need to contact anybody (saves $$$).

Not to start another round of angst about IBM and processes but rather than saving money by "off-shoring", IBM would do well just to simply join the "Smarter Planet" and automate much of what now requires a phone call or an email exchange. IBM support is first rate and you folks deliver some awesome products, but you are your own worst enemy when it comes to product naming, configuration, acquisition and support contract renewals (but it IS slowly getting better).

Hi Pete,

I think that for ESS customers you have to actually do something like
order a no-charge upgrade part number and then the next version will
become available to you. As Joe indicates, you can download the product
from the Web with a 60 day trial license then install and use that until
your activation kit is available on ESS.

Go to http://www-01.ibm.com/software/rational/products/rdp/ and push the
blue button.

Would those be in ESS? Right now I see both the software and the
activation in ESS (v 7.6). Nothing for version 8 though.

I just shot off an email to IBM. Looks like some of my SWMA has expired
on my blade (sheesh! You'd think IBM could send out an electronic notice
of expiring SWMA?) but I don't think RDP was affected. Let's see what
they say....

Download directly from IBM (see my previous post on the articles I've
written). The trick is getting your licenses ("activation kits").

Joe

How have folks been upgrading to RDP 8? I have SWMA and I am running
RDP 7.6 and I expected to see a download option in ESS but I don't. IBM
is my "business partner" (I purchase/lease directly from them) and I
will admit that in the past they have been a little flaky in managing
the license/SWMA records.

Just interested in where folks found/obtained their "upgrade".
