The good news is that you can download the new versions and get started right now. I've outlined the whole download and install process for RDP (RPG and COBOL tools) is here:

http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/ibmi/rdp8_part1/35335p1.aspx

This is an introduction to the tool:

http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/ibmi/rdp8_part2/35290p1.aspx

The skinny on downloading RBD (EGL tools) is here:

http://www.ibmsystemsmag.com/ibmi/enewsletterexclusive/35626p1.aspx

A getting started article for RBD is coming soon.

Download these and get back to work, and your 60-day clock should start ticking, because the keys for V8 is different than the key for V7.5.

I am facing the same problem, in a different way.

The license for the RDi expired.

I reinstalled Eclipse, now I can't find instructions or the download to
allow me to use Eclipse to connect to machines.

So now I am stuck with Client Access and PDM. (I had no idea how used I
had become to the new IDEs.)

Since everyone says it's confusing...(to me also)...

IBM - we need a clear picture (do it in html or prefer pdf) - but we need a
picture of all the components, names, product id's,& please!!! some clear
statement of how to get from WDSC (and all it's various components) to
RDwhatever version...

I've spent hours loading what was in a recent v6r1 shipment (RDsomething
7.5) only to find it was a product that has been replaced, and the trial
period on cd's was expired - could not execute..

Subject: Re: [WDSCI-L] IBM is so confusing!

So, the product is named "Rational Developer for Power Systems Software"
(which alone is too long and cumbersome to really use in a marketing
slogan... heck it might even be too long for an elevator pitch.) But by
itself, that name "Rational Developer for Power Systems Software"
doesn't actually /mean/ anything, because you also have to specify which
of the 4 options you want.

The options are named "RPG and COBOL Development Tools",from which,
apparently, we have to just assume it's for IBM i, because it doesn't
say that. We also have to know that it contains tools for other things
besides RPG and COBOL (DDS, CL, C, C++, etc) because the name doesn't
say that either. Why wasn't this option named "Development tools for i"
or something similar?!

The other three options tell which languages on which platforms, but are
there more that they don't list?

At any rate, the whole thing is confusing the point of being unwieldy.
It takes a 15 minute talk to understand the name of the product.

And how does Java/J2EE/Websphere/HTML fit into all of this?

Hi Scott,
The product name is: Rational Developer for Power Systems Software
And there are 4 separately licensable parts to it.
1) RPG and COBOL Development Tools
2) COBOL Development Tools for AIX
3) C/C++ Development Tools for AIX
4) C/C++ Development Tools for Linux

So option 1 corresponds to what used to be available with RDi and WDSc.
The remain options are new function targeting other operating systems
that
also run on the Power hardware.

Edmund
