I had this problem before - the hang after the QShell launch problem
(java.exe CPU) should be fixed in the fixpack. QShell not working was a
firewall problem for me.

Run Verify Connection and see if "Checking host callbacks" looks OK.
Both
QShell view and STRRSESVR involve call initiations from IBM i to your
PC.
I needed to authenticate to the firewall that my IBM i was behind, to
allow
calls from IBM i to my PC.
