What happened is that IBM came through on the two promises they made in Raleigh: first, there will be a developer box with a single license of the tools. Second, you will be able to upgrade from ADTS to RDi. George mentioned both of these at OCEAN as well.

The 620 Express is the developer's box - it contains a single seat of just about everything (except RDi-SOA for Java, which is the newly announced replacement for the full-blown WDSC package). Not perfect - I wanted a free copy on every machine - but it's a pretty attractive offer nonetheless.

The ADTS to RDi upgrade is separate. Any ADTS licenses can be upgraded to RDi for a discount of about 40% or so. I think George said the final price was just under $450. Again, not perfect, but better than full price.

It's been reported that several IBMers want to give discounts to move from WDSC to RDi, but the details have not been *officially* released yet that I know of.

There are no plans for an upgrade from WDSC to RDi; they're different tools with different purposes. As I noted, there is a new package, RDi-SOA for Java, which pretty much fits the niche that WDSC fell into. Since you didn't pay for WDSC in the first place, I don't expect an upgrade option.

will I still be able to use WDSC7 to connect to their machine ?

I'd love an official answer to this question, but my guess is that you can connect with both WDSC and RDi. It depends on how IBM packaged the 'back end' that runs on the i. If 5733-RDI has different code than 5722-WDS, then maybe not.

I will find out about this. What you're asking about is 5722WDS feature code 60. I don't know whether it's the same feature in 5761WDS, and which of the 5761WDS components (ILE? Heritage?) include it, if any. If IBM thought it through, they'd keep it as 5761WDS feature 60 separate from 5733RDI and then phase it out with releases after 2010.
