For me, I have no problem to do that, but.. I'm only a member of our team. Not everybody comfortable to write ILE RPG. It takes time. Another concern is that writing a new program should be OK as we have to testing the whole program. However, changing the existing big RPG program is an issue. I believe the CVTRPGSRC should be working but I cannot just make this assumption. If I convert the OPM RPG to ILE RPG, I still have to test it (not just the part I make change). Due to the limited resources, I will consider that "don't fix it if it is working", unless we get the approval from our business user (project owner). To convince the business user is totally another skill set..... Sorry, I may be too careful.

Mark,

That's a great point! I guess it depends on which set of compilers the
CVTRPGSRC command comes with. Does anybody know?

Hello, all:

No one else has mentioned this yet, so here goes ...

Why not just license the ILE compilers, and any time you need to "touch"

an old OPM RPG/400 program, just use the CVTRPGSRC command to convert it

to RPG IV first, then compile it with CRTBNDRPG, with ACTGRP(*DFTACTGRP)

... (aka. "OPM compatibility mode")... This way, your shop should be
able to migrate everything to ILE smoothly, while saving money by not
needing to license the OPM compilers at all.

Does this not "make sense" and if not, why not?

Thanks,

Mark S. Waterbury
