Andrew,

This is a known problem (APAR SE28407), and will be fixed in next fix pack
of WDSC 7.0.

Subject
[WDSCI-L] Remote Shell problem in WSDC

All,

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing problems with the Remote
Shell
(for an iSeries session) in WSDC.

I have mananaged to get the Remote Shell working once or twice in my
experiences with WDSC, but alas no more.

Having worked with WDSc for iSeries since v5.1 (a very trying time) - I am
now using WDSC 7.0 Advanced Edition, with pretty much all of the latest
fix
packs applies.

Version: 7.0.0
Build id: 20070202_0031

This is connecting to an i5 with V5R4 installed, at PTF level TC07282 (not
the most up to date but not the oldest either).

Workstation is running Windows XP Pro w/SP2 applied.

Every time I attempt to start QSHELL from WDSC, it launches the shell,
which
promptly terminates and leaves javaw.exe taking all of the available CPU.
Nothing cures it except killing the JVM, which is fine if only taskman
could
get enough processor cycles to actually launch.
9 times out of 10 this results in a reboot of the PC - which is not much
fun
when you have multiple windows open in the editor.

I've tried recreating workspaces, 7 different iSeries at V5R3 & V5R4 and
different user profiles on the host.
The shell works fine to a Windows or a Linux server, it's just the iSeries
shell.
It means I have to go back to green screen for any QSHELL type work, which
is a bit of a pain.

This email is purely on the off-chance that someone else has experienced
(and cured) the same problem.
As mentioned before, it's worked once or twice. I think it was WDSC
6.0.0.4
that worked, but couldn't guarantee the exact version.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Regards

Andrew
