My choice for calling a program to perform a functions wouldnt be as a stored procedure, I agree with the other comments. If you expect a dataset returned then the stored procedure is the way to go since I beleive (note I dont know for sure) that using JT400 would require some sort of parameters with array datastructure logic which seems to be more complex then needed. Hope this helps and if anyone else knows how to return sets of data without stored procedures I'm all ears.

So, do you mean that you are thinking about calling RPG programs using stored procedures?

Well, IMHO you are just adding an extra layer of complexity that you don't need. You are adding another piece that needs to be created, moved, tested, maintained and tracked, and, thus, another possible source of errors.

On the other hand, if you think that using JDBC is user than JT400, you might want to consider creating your own wrapper classes to make your life easier.
