Richard,

I agree with Thornbjorn... if you are going to migrate this code, the way to go would be Struts 2.0.

In general, you don't want to move from Struts, but the other way around. Struts is where you probably want to be (unless you are dealing with a handful of JSP screens).

In my experience it is a bit easier separating the various parts of the application from each other with JSF but that is based on experiences with Struts. Both are usually (if done right) separating the data from the logic and again from the presentation. It tend to grow a bit with a little bit here and some overthere and everything thrown in a big configuration file. At my old work it was referred to as "Struts Hell", but that is some years ago. I hope that Struts 2 has helped a bit on it.

In this particular situation a mentoring consultant would probably be what I would suggest.

Forum: please don't laugh, ok? I found the "Jakarta Struts for Dummies" to be one of the best (and cheapest) guides to learning Struts. It's too bad that this book got into those "for Dummies" series... it's a pretty decent book (and I'm not the only one saying that... look at the Amazon readers' reviews).
Noted, good and cheap reference books are rare.
I find it somewhat a contradiction though - Struts is WAY over what could reasonably expected from a Dummy :)
