You're going to be penalized if you choose to continue to maintain
software that is over 10 years out of date, yes. You find that
offensive, I can understand. But it's the reality. The people who pay
more are the people who want both worlds.

You know, it's not only a matter of will...
When I have to buy a new Windows licence because the older one I get can't
handle my new motherboard... well, I'm not pleased with Micro$oft, but for
the price I paid, I still can afford.
How can I tell my customers that after paying the high price for their
customized applications, they now have to pay, not for getting new
features, but for translating their program in a more modern style ? As
the programs are fully operationnal, customers won't see what it will
bring them to migrate, they'll just see that I will charge them for the
migration.
I write each new RPG program in free-form ILE, and I use a lot of Java
for batches, but I can't migrate thousands of OPM programs for free.
Finally, everything will be ILE and/or web-based, but it will take a lot
of time.
Well, it's not that bad, I know some people who are still using the STRS36
command, at least I managed to avoid that.... ;-)
