Okay, all you gloom and doomers - calm down. The costs for the
compilers have also been revamped, and those have been broken apart as
well, basically into ILE and non-ILE components. The prices have been
lowered so that, for a single user on a P05, you will actually pay LESS

than the current bundled cost, and a lot less if you get off the stick
and convert into a pure ILE environment.

Joe, I totally understand that concept. But what about those of us who
choose to do all of our new development in ILE, but are also stuck
maintaining a vendor-supplied package written in OPM (JDE in our case)?
It's not the individual shop's fault that the vendor refuses to stay
current.

On the other hand, those of you who insist on staying in the old world,

you have two choices: pay less and stay in the past, or pay more and
migrate to the future, then pay less when you're done migrating.

I know you didn't mean anything personal by this, but I'm still rather
offended by the idea that IBM is going to charge me once to be able to
maintain my JDE programs, and then charge me twice because I choose to
keep my skills current by developing my custom stuff in ILE.

Count me in as agreeing that this is a bad move on IBM's part.
