The US letter explicitly states: 'Authorization for use on home/portable computer: You may not copy and use this program on another computer without paying additional license fees.'

In my opinion, that is patently ridiculous. They say "if you install a copy on one computer, each person that uses it must pay us", but then later they say "you need to pay for each copy". Just choose one for goodness sake!

So let's say someone sets up an Windows application server for their developers. Perhaps some of them telecommute regularly. They need one license for each developer. Let's say that the number of developers grows, and now we add another application server and load balance between them somehow. Do they need two times the licenses? Each developer might use both copies.

I don't think mixing per user pricing with per copy pricing will ever make sense to me. Then again, maybe software pricing is ludicrous by nature, due to the ephemeral nature of software itself.
