No, what they want is for the System i to survive. Unfortunately, having unlimited seats to every possible tool included in the single-price 5722WDS product didn't make any money. And with no money coming in, there is no budget for development. Unlike Microsoft, whose development is subsidized by millions and millions of copies of Windows, there just aren't enough i5/OS sales to support free tools.

I know I sound like I'm drinking the koolaid here, but that's the truth of the matter. Remember this: both ADTS *AND* RDi are per-seat costs now. You have to pay for the developer. Thank the companies that shoved 50 developers on a P05 for that move. IBM can no longer support that development model, so they unbundled the price. If I understand correctly, though, on a per seat basis, the graphical tools will actually cost less per seat than the ADTS tools.
