I think the Ctrl+0 shortcut was added at V7. There is an editor action called closeView (IIRC) that you can bind to a shortcut if you wish. The only trick is that if you execute closeView on the primary view, it can close the editor without asking to save changes, so you need to decide if the risk is worth it for you.
