Did I take a class to learn freeform and CGI? No. I learned them by
working extra hours to do so.
Excellent! I doubt there are many on this list that aren't "go getters"
simply for the fact that they are on this list :-)

Does WDSC have benefits to it that I can't do with SEU/PDM that TRULY
affect the end result? Not from what I've seen.

How do you code your HTML? SEU? Service Entry Points are a must-have for
CGI programming
Here's a tutorial showing how to use them (though for RPG web services, but
they have very similar scenarios):

.html

Oooh, I can search with WDSC.... yeah, I can search in SEU too (or use my
own tools I developed for searching).
Have you used the search features in WDSC? I am guessing not a lot based on
your response. What have you developed that is better than WDSC's search?

Oooh, I can open multiple programs in WDSC... I don't particularly want to
edit multiple programs at one time. If I need to have the dds and ile open
at the same time I can open 2 sessions.
I usually have about five to ten open at any given time. Using Ctrl+E to
switch between members rocks! This one could be personal preference, or it
could be that you like to keep things simple (do you also close out your
browser and Windows Explorer immediately after you are done using it? - I
don't because I know I will be right back there in the next 30 minutes. I
call it gaining efficiencies :-)

And as for job security... well, if we ain't using WDSC here, no one is
going to replace me because they use it and I don't.
[Shaking head] They aren't going to replace you with somebody that does
know WDSC. They are going to replace you with a C#.NET developer that knows
Visual Studio! (the "you's" in that sentence are general reference to the
RPG audience). After being a consultant for 3 years now I am flabbergasted
at the number of business that run mission critical apps on Windows (evident
by the web services I connect with that have .asmx/.asp extensions or
whatever). You would be surprised how quickly higher management will jump
ship to Microsoft and leave RPG/iSeries/DB2. The reality is many are frogs
in a slowly boiling hot water pan - everything looks fine until that GUI or
XML project comes up, and then the farming off to Wintel starts. I digress.
I think I fought this battle last week :-) Too tired to start it again.

I actually like some of the features in WDSC (that's why I joined this
forum) and look forward to it becoming more popular, but even I'm getting
tired of all the WDSC bible thumpers basically insinuating that people are
idiots if they haven't learned how to use it
- or worse - CHOOSE not to use it. IMOH - use the tool that works best for
you.

In the past I may have been in that crowd. Now I am more in the crowd
saying "At least try it and understand it so when you are in the next
corporate meeting and Microsoft is being touted, you are armed with the
knowledge to debate."
