I am not entirely understanding your scenario, but one thing I use a lot to
"span the divide" to bring non-Eclipse based files into Eclipse without
Eclipse "owning the creation of them" is to do a link. Select to add a new
file, and in the "New File" window select the Advanced button, and click the
check mark "Link to file in the file system".

Is that what you were looking for?

Thanks for replying - it is very close, except that it will link to a local file or a shared file on \\as400\foo\bar.

I'd like to be able to have such a linked file, but which can point to a location inside RSE so when followed RSE is invoked on whatever the linked file points to. It is fine if this is non-understandable to ordinary Eclipses.

Any suggestions?
