Hi Kurt, VARPG opens two connections, one for files (DDM I think) and the
other one is for remorte calls. You need to service/debug the second one.

Is there any way to debug a service program call from VARPG where the
service program resides on the System i? I tried to run a service job
debug over the job that had opened the files for my VARPG program, but
that didn't seem to work.

I need to do this because a service program that has been working
perfectly fine on the System i is not working when called from VARPG.

Here's the prototype for the service program I'd like to debug:
// Format the Item Description for Display
D $FmtItemDesc PR Linkage(*Server)
D ExtPgm( 'ITMSPROC' )
D ExtProc('$FMTITEMDESC')
D DescIn 350a Const Varying
D DescOutArray 35a Dim( 20 )
D NumOfElem 3u 0

Thanks,
