I think, if you double-click a file from a remote location, it is
downloaded in your workspace (the RemoteSystemsTempFiles folder comes to
mind), and the local copy is then opened.

That would explain why someone else doesn't see your modifications.

But when you right-click and "open with system editor", it is opened
directly from the remote location.

You could verify this by opening a very large file (i'm talking several MB
here). If it's downloaded locally, you will see a progress box.

Sorry I'll try again.

In my RSE filter, I open a .doc or a .xls with a double click.
I modify and save the fichier.
I close and open the file again with a double click and see my
modifications.
I close and open the file again with a right click open with system editor
and DON'T see my modifications.
