Not at all sure what WDSC brings to the table for a pure Java developer because I'm an RPG guy. Hopefully Aaron will chip in here.

Basically WSDC brings J2EE tools (for WebSphere) and familiar interfaces to the iSeries to the Java programmer. It is much easier to find things instead of needing to guess an appropriate abbreviation command for the task, because WSDC knows which command it will invoke.

Additionally it allows the Java programmer to use the familiar Eclipse debugger to debug server side stuff in all supported languages, and set breakpoints in SEP's.

The language editors help by colour coding so it is easier to see if things are ok in e.g. a CL program.

The easy way to transfer files of all kinds back and forth between the development machine and the iSeries is a boon.

And lots more - I think version 7 is nice.
