Joe,

Do you have syntax checking enabled?
There is some problems with the SQL syntax checker APIs on the iSeries
which cause WDSC to hang and also affects SEU (although the reports that I
have heard are for SQLRPGLE, COBOL is also affected).
I believe that there are a number of test PTF available if you contact IBM
support.
You can also take a look at this APAR (SE28380):

Hmm. That sounds similar to what happened to me, I did have syntax checking
on (although I am on V5R3). And I think the workbench didn't just hang, it
actually blew up (with the gray JVM error message). But now I can't
remember if it blew up itself or if I canceled it.

In any case, Violaine, I've been working fine ever since. I'll let you know
if it happens again!

Joe
