If I understand correctly, the terms 'drop-down triangle', 'triangle drop-down', and 'drop-down menu' all are from Eclipse--i.e., the Eclipse platform and foundation.

I believe you're right. It can be a fun time trying to match up Eclipse documentation with WDSC though. There is very little Eclipse 3.0 documentation on the internet; forums hardly ever have answers about it. We have to use the included WDSC documentation which is pretty darned good. It just doesn't have a comprehensive, canonical list of all the icons used by the product.
