Peter,

I just installed V7 yesterday and am using it today. So far, I can work with
it just as well as I can V6, with no serious 'gotchas'. I followed Adam
Glauser's instructions for installing the Softlanding extensions (thanks,
Adam!), and haven't seen any problems with the iSeries Editing view (I don't
use the other pieces a lot). If you have the disk space, I'd suggest
installing V7 without removing V6 and trying it out. If it works for you,
don't bother with the V6 updates; if it doesn't, do the updates later and go
back to V6. So far, though, I don't see any reason to go back, myself. YMMV,
of course.

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Upgrade V6 with latest patches vs V7

Hi list!

I am a newbie in the WDS world and I am trying to catch up with the
"billion patches and drivers" I have to apply to keep my V6 up-to-date.
IBM recommended me to download the patches because if I do it naturally
through RPU it will take forever to finalize and install all. As a
result, I downloaded all what is required and I have them in 2 DVDs.
However, it still takes forever to install.

I was wondering if this is worth the effort or if getting V7 is better. I
still have to do this 8 additional times on other peers PCs and laptops.

Your advise and comments are highly appreciated.

TIA,
