I agree with this.  Isn't this the reason why everyone wasn't using
CODE/400?  There was no question it was a great product but most shops
would not shell out the money.

The only reason the majority of people who use WDSC for RPG development
today are using it is because it is included with the compilers. Take away
that incentive and you will see usage drop to near nothing. I can't
imagine
many shops, small or large, paying a 3 or 4 hundred dollar per seat
premium
for WDSC when the green screen tools work well enough and do not cost
extra.
It may actually be better for the users if they do start charging for
WDSC.
Maybe then we will see some third-party products that blow WDSC out of the
water. In any case, if they intend to start charging for the development
environment then they should provide the compilers as part of the OS. Then
charge x for PDM and x+y for WDSC and give people the choice of how much
to
spend.
