I tried your suggestion to no avail.  However, when all else fails, RTFM.  I
checked HELP and (unlike most attempts) I actually found something useful.
Instead of "splitWindow on", I used "set multipleViews on", followed by
"openNewView"...and it worked!

CTRL-2 doesn't work in this instance (I hope this can be added to the
enhancements list if feasible), but as long as I have a way to do it, I
don't care how.  I don't edit REXX source very often, so it's no big deal.
