If the icons aren't intuitive for you, you can also "rename" the 
perspectives by saving custom versions (also nice if you have views added 
to the base perspective).  For example, I renamed "Remote System Explorer" 
to "RSE" by switching to the Remote System Explorer perspective, then 
Window -> Save Perspective As...  and then typing RSE in the dialogue. 
This way I don't have to move the slider quite so far to fit my most used 
perspectives.

- disable showing text 
et voila
