Rob,

The easiest way to start the debugger is to set a service entry point on
the program (or service program) first. Then you just need to call that
program (you could invoke it in the 5250 interactive session, or submit it
to run in a batch job, etc).

If I want to debug a program, what should I be doing, then? It's not
necessarily that I want to "debug a program running on the RSE job". I
just want to debug it.

Hi Rob,

The service entry point invocation of a debug session will not work for if
you run your program in the RSE server job. Good catch :-), but it is
working as designed. We took this off since if the debug session is
started on the RSE job, all the other RSE operations will be held.
If you want to debug a program running on the RSE job, you need to attach
to that job explicitly.

Xuan,

I am trying this and maybe I am failing to understand.
- I compiled the source that I have open in the editor.
- In the RSE perspective, under iSeries objects, library list, library,
object, I right click on the new program and select Debug, Set Service
Entry point.
- In that same perspective, and area, I right click on the same object and
select Run(Prompt)(F), iSeries application in RSE job
- On the "My iSeries program for run" window I click on Run.
Nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Mike,

One of the way to invoke the debugger to debug your program is to use
Service Entry Point support in RSE.

If you are using WDSc 6.0, right click on the program/service program you
want to debug, and choose Debug (Service Entry) -> Set Service Entry
Point.
If you are using WDSc 5.1.2, right click on the program/service program
you
want to debug, and choose Service Entry Point -> Set.

Then just run your program/service program. A debug session will come up,
with your program under debug.

Thanks a lot for the response. I tried the snippet of code and it worked
just like I wanted to. Rob also recommended the usage of debugger and I am
trying to figure out how to go about using it in RSE. Thanks for all your
help.

Mike.
