No, I wouldn't see value in setting save.trim by source type.  However, I 
still could see value in setting column sensitive editing by source type. 
If I thought on it long enough, I could probably find other things I would 
want to vary by source type.  But I think most if not all the others are 
controllable by the Preferences for the LPEX editor parsers.

Once the current formatting vs. trim problem is fixed, do you still see 
value in setting the trimming of blanks by source type?
