I'm not sure what it is you want at home. Websphere Application Server is a
web server. Websphere Studio Client (WDSC) is an IDE. I'm not sure what
Rational Express Edition is. I do know that the latest version of WDSC is
labeled IBM Rational Software Development Platform. It is version 6.0.

You do not need to install the application server to install WDSC. Even if you
do things like web services there is a test server available with WDSC for
testing purposes. I haven't used the one in 6.0 yet but the one in 5.1 worked
fine.

HTH,

Rick

Subject: [WDSCI-L] Question on installing at home

I was planning on installing Websphere Application Server 6.0 at my house,
(on XP pro machine), so I can "play" with Websphere on my off time as
there isn't a lot of time at work to train myself. I have a couple of
questions: 1. Which IDE to use? We have Websphere Studio Client
Developer 5.1, Rational Express Edition 6.0, (will that work with the full
App server version?), and I already have Eclipse installed. 2. Should I
install the full version or the Express version? And what's the real
difference between the two? Thanks for your help. =)
