I located the properties Workbench>Capabilities and made sure that all
available were checked under Database. Exited the IDE and upon restart
double checked this property and processed to open the Data prospective and
right clicked on the Database Explorer in order to access the New Connection
option as outlined in the IBM Press An Introduction to IBM Rational
Application Developer ISBN 1-931182-22-1. The feature rich IDE is documented
to be able to "create a connection to your database, and then browse for
tables or views or run queries against it." The tutorial on page 93 then
goes on to state instructions for accessing MS SQL Server, DB2 etc.
