I have found another Preference setting which seems to turn off caching for
RSE alone:


>From workbench:

 - click menu option "Window"
 - click "Preferences"

>From Preferences dialog:

 - click "Remote Systems"
 - uncheck "Use cached information to restore the Remote Systems view"

Since my server is on a local LAN, the peformance is acceptable without the
cache. YMMV.
