Hi Frank,

Glad to hear you got it solved. That is definitely one I'll add to our
checklist, thanks for reporting the solution back to us!

When we ship fixes via update manager the zip files contain all the update
plug-ins that are updated. This could be any number of plug-ins, each
which would contain their own zip files, icons, configuration files
etc..., so unfortunately there is no maximum limit, and I have no
reasonable guidance to provide on what would be a good value.

Re: [WDSCI-L] 5.1.2.4 error when installing.....again ....

Don (and all others),

I finally made it!! :-))

We found out, after some investigations, that the reason why it didn't
work
was due to a limitation in the anti-virus file scanner settings.
There is a setting for number of files that is allowed to have in ONE .zip
file (also applies to .jar files), the setting we had was 10 000 files!

com.ibm.etools.iseries.toolbox_5.1.2.4.jar obviously exceeds that limit in
its contents!! (This also applies to one of the .jar files in interim fix
004)

When our network guys increased the number of allowed file to the maximum
of what the scanner product allows, the download was able to complete!!

The limit of 10 000 is not set due to any scientific evaluations but
rather
just a rough estimate, apparently we have to re-evaluate that figure.
The reason for the limit is not related to the risk of virus infection,
but
rather from a network traffic load point of view.

So Don, we have a question to you and your development team:
How many files should we allow (by default) to make sure that we don't run
in to these kinds of issues again?
I understand that it might be difficult to set a limit that holds under
all
circumstances, but maybe you at IBM has some kind of policy for when an
update gets too big for Update manager and results in a CD/DVD
installation
release instead.

Any input that could help us avoid these kinds of issues are appreciated!

And Don, thank you very much for your help so far!

/Frank

Frank,

Did you try (just as a test) to download the file using your web browser?
Just copy and paste the link below into the URL field. I tried this and
was able to open it fine after it downloaded. The file should be 18.6 MB.

Do you have any new proxy servers installed at your office?

Hi Don,

Tried your suggestion, with the following outcome:
Unable to complete action for feature "WebSphere Development Studio Client

  Unable to retrieve remote reference

Saw something about this in the archives, could it have something to do
with our firewall settings?
In that case, how come some updates work??

Hi Frank,

Do you have lots of free space available on your C drive? Try deleting or
renaming the eclipse folder under Temp below and see if that helps at all.

Subject
[WDSCI-L] 5.1.2.4 error when installing.....again ....

Hi all,

I still am in great confusion regarding my update problems....!

When updating to version 5.1.2.4, I get the following message:
Unable to complete action for feature "WebSphere Development Studio Client
for iSeries" due to errors.
  The File
"C:\DOCUME~1\$userName$\LOCALS~1\Temp\eclipse\.update\1105362639716\1105362639808\eclipse22851.tmp"

is not a valid JAR file. [error in opening zip file
C:\DOCUME~1\$userName$\LOCALS~1\Temp\eclipse\.update\1105362639716\1105362639808\eclipse22851.tmp]

What is wrong, can I do anything to fix this????
I have been checking the other .tmp files in the directory and they can be
opened by winzip, but not this one, it says:
"Unexpected end of archive"!

I would be VERY grateful if I could get some information from SOMEBODY
regarding this issue!
If I am raising issue in the wrong forum, please let me know where I
should
report it to get it resolved!!!

/Frank
PS.
I have been running several updates during the last year when I have been
using WDSc ( which I am VERY happy with using) and they have been
installed
smoothly!!--
