Don,

Thanks for your reply - I'm learning more and more each day about this tool.
The F spec tip is good, but I'm a COBOL programmer. Is there a similar way to show fields for COBOL users?

Jim,

If you verify your source while connected the information for externally
described database, printer and display files get cached locally, so you
can then verify any source changes made while disconnected. While
disconnected you can also select a file in an F spec in the editor, right
click and select "Show Fields" which will show field information in the
table view, or refresh the outline view to get record and field information
for a file. If any of the tools find they need something that is not in
the cache then they will try to connect to the remote system. You can stop
this be putting the RSE (iSeries projects use RSE connections) in offline
mode via the caching preferences page.

If you know you are going to be referencing a database / printer / display
file while disconnected you can also right click on the object in the RSE
and select "Cache File Description" to add the information for that object
to the cache.
