Before doing these things, check our the Migration document and see what you need to save from version 4, esp. workspaces and projects, etc.

And maybe wait until others respond, to be sure I'm giving you good information. The following suggestions do involve editing the Windows Registry, and there is some risk of making your life unsettled for awhile if you are not careful. ;-)

You may have Registry entries that refer to WDSC. Start regedit from Start->Run, then Ctrl-F to do a search.

Put WDSC in the text field and select all 3 of Keys, Values, and Data.

When something is found, delete it and possibly some of its parent entries - be careful here not to go too far up the tree.

Then search on WSSD or possibly WSAD (for WebSphere Application Developer).

And, who knows, try the same for WDT.

Then try the same for the word WebSphere. Be careful here - not everything that says WebSphere is related to WDSC.

Finally, open the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/IBM tree and look for anything left over that looks significant - the words WebSphere, WSDC, etc., and derivatives. Again, be careful.

And do the same for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/IBM tree.

And you may want to delete the relevant directories - C:\WDSC and C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere Studio are typical.

When I try to install WDSC Version 5.1 over V4.0 it tell me I have an
older version of WDSC and to remove it manually. When I tried to remove

I removed WDSC 4.0 manually and tried to install V5.1 and it still told
me I had an earlier version and to uninstall manually. The Add/Change
Program for Windows no longer shows WDSC so I seem to be stuck.
I am running Windows XP on a Sony Vaio Laptop. I would appreciate any
help.
