I have all but given up on the automatic building that VS does because of
weird quirks like this.

Thanks. I will give that a try and see how it goes. Might have to do some
research on how to create the datatable but that is no biggie. Thank you
for your suggestion.

Seeing how you are loading that, it may not work. It may be best to create
your own DataTable from the Excel data to ensure the data is coming in as
you expect, then sending it to the DataGrid. I have had to create my own
DataTable several times for some Reporting Services reports. If you don't
know how to do this, I can give you the basic steps.

Well, the thing is that in that cell in the datagridview there is no

Or

Are you talking about programmatically changing the spreadsheet before
loading it? In other words, looking for numbers only cells and making
them
characters?

I was actually thinking that you handle the error on your side.
Obviously,
you can't expect the user to edit the spreadsheet everytime they generate
one.

But at least for the moment you know that is precisely the problem.

Mike,
I suspect that was happening. I inserted a single quote before the
value
in the cell that only has numbers, reloaded the spreadsheet and it
worked
fine. The spreadsheet is generated by an end user and I wouldn't like
to
have her format that column before sending the spreadsheet every time,
but
that could be the work around for now.

Excel automatically thinks that if there is a number, it is a numeric
field.
I haven't worked with Excel like that before, is there a way to change
it
to
a different format in the program? That would be my uneducated idea.

Hello,

Even though technically this is not .net and iSeries, indirectly it
is.
I
am loading an Excel spreadsheet into a datagridview. One of the
columns
has
alphanumeric data. Now, some of the values in the cells on this
column
contain only numbers. When I load the data into the datagridview,
the
cells
that have only numbers show up blanks on the datagridview while the
cells
that have characters and numbers show up ok. This data will be used
by
the
application later to cross-reference it to a table on the iSeries.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and give me any suggestions
on
how
to resolve this?

As always, your help is greatly appreciated...
