Sivalingam's response nicely sums it up!

Once you go down this road, you wind up in the data warehouse business. You
may find this to be quite time consuming depending on the needs of your
company and the users will always want more or the same in different ways
once you break this seal. Be forward thinking in your creation of your data
warehouse.

We originally selected Crystal (Web published) a few years ago but are
planning to move to SQL 2005 BI in the future as we already utilize SQL
server in other applications and it is a free add on. The success of ODBC
is very dependent upon the size of your database. If you are a smaller
company for example and warehouse on the AS400, response may not be so bad
for single file.

Finally, if your intent is to provide users a BI Ad Hoc inquiry tool, you
will want to consider OLAP based functionality.

Subject: [SYSTEM21] Reporting tools

Hello all,

I've been set the task of looking at new reporting tools for with-in our
business and I thought I would ask on the user group to see what people
are using and how they have found them extracting the data from System
21 and building the relevant cubes....

I've got documentation from Business Objects and have Cognos coming to
see me in the next few weeks.....

Any thing any one would like to share , I would be very interested

Kind Regards
Glen Boyle
