We do use INP39. GEAC just told me it will require a Mod to expand DSIC39 to
14 Char.

Are you sure about that file? I think INP39 was used
for the configurator.

One possibility would be to use INP38, the alternative
reference file, INP38 field ALTI38. A uniqueness
requirement is enforced here so this may be good or
bad for your situation.

Another thought is to use item text with a specific
text type only used for UPC codes. If only line 1 is
used, that could meet your need.
